My brother and I were able to attend a presentation and autograph signing with Ray Bradbury at the Bakersfield Marriot on November 1, 2008. The Marriot was across the street from our store and my Dad was already away prepping his DJ gig for that day so we had to hire some very short-term help in the form of the son of the the owner of The Coffee Cottage (one of the other businesses inside "The Cottages" with us.) He had helped us out by watching the store before and would continue to help us in the future. My brother was set to help my Dad later that day with his DJ gig but had time until then and I had just quit my day job earlier that week so luckily we were able to get away from the store.
After the presentation, my brother and I got into the line to receive Ray Bradbury's autograph. My brother brought along a magazine that included a portrait of Bradbury inside. The portrait was Halloween-themed (Bradbury's favorite holiday.) Bradbury really seemed to enjoy it. I brought my paperback copy of The Martian Chronicles to be signed.
